Hi folks,
I’m speaking with various language schools in Japan, as my wife and I would like to take up to two years off from work (we have plenty of savings) to live and study, and possibly work, in Japan. AFAIK, such schools will help “sponsor” a student visa for up to two years.
Today we discovered the [Long Stay visa](https://www.mofa.go.jp/ca/fna/page22e_000738.html).
* Could we simultaneously apply for that, in addition to applying to schools, or is it a bad idea?
* The motivation would be to “hedge” against some unforeseen rejection of the student visa, e.g. from the language school being at full capacity.
* Could we simultaneously apply for multiple schools (and multiple visas through each one, if that’s how it works), in case one of them rejects us, but another one wouldn’t?
Thanks!

**Possible to apply for multiple visas?**

>Could we simultaneously apply for that, in addition to applying to schools, or is it a bad idea?
It is a ***very*** bad idea, one that could end up with *all* of your applications being rejected. It could also possibly result in future applications being rejected/blacklisted for apparent fraud.
You apply for one visa. Having multiple applications will not help, and will in fact lead to the results above.
>Could we simultaneously apply for multiple schools
Yes.
>and multiple visas through each one, if that’s how it works
No. That’s not how it works. The visa process happens after you’ve been accepted by a school.
Also:
>Today we discovered the Long Stay visa
Do you have 60 million yen (~$500k USD) in savings?
>Could we simultaneously apply for multiple schools (and multiple visas through each one,
You may only have one visa (CoE) application at a time. Immigration will not allow you to have concurrent applications.
So if you want to use the wealthy tourist status then don’t ask a school to also apply for a student visa for you.
