Studying an MS/M.Eng in Japan then working? Other questions as well…

How possible is it to study full time for an MS or M.Eng in Japan under a student visa then trying afterwards to find work to get a work visa so I wouldn’t have to leave Japan after studying, or even try to get work during the last few semesters. Can I have a leverage in chance of being hired due to being already be in Japan and with work experience?

Would it just be better to get work under a work visa/engineering visa then study? This was my original plan since I already have over 5 years of work experience as a mechanical/structural design engineer with an aerospace company. I’m just worried if it’ll be difficult to even study a Masters during work in Japan during weekends. Hopefully I can try to find one that’s fully online/hybrid atleast.

I’ve planned trying to work in Japan since late 2019, but I figured staying put for more work experience was a better choice first. I haven’t actually applied yet in any companies in Japan, but was supposed to last year, however something work-related forced me to go thru a 6 month business trip in the US so I put that on hold.

Although I have gotten some offers, and so is my friend on some jobs in Japan. And this makes me wonder, can anyone give me a proper salary range that we should be looking for with 5+ years of work exp in a similar field. Granted I have other accolades at work, not just tenure, like some patents filed, certification, various roles, etc. Although a rough range should atleast give us an idea, because my friend who is slightly behind me in terms of work experience, under 5 years, received an offer before to work for an engineering company as some CAD engineer or the likes and he was only offered 250k JPY. Do you think that’s a fair offer?

I’ve been studying japanese since 2020 btw, and I’m also N2-level. Although I still have some minor difficulty speaking, but that’s mostly attributed to being barely exposed to Japanese speakers in real life I think. Most of my conversation are in HelloTalk and to people already in Japan in some of my Discord servers, some of whom are natives. Currently I’m 28 years old fyr.
