Hi everyone, my two friends and I (all M in early 20’s) are going to Japan for the first time this summer. I have been working on making an itinerary that is balanced between sight seeing and actual activities to do. I just wanted to double check this itinerary and make sure it’s realistic and that I’m not missing out on any big things. Also we are using the JR pass throughout our trip and got a pocket Wifi.
Day 1 – Tokyo
– Fly into Haneda Airport (7 pm)
– Check in to hotel and relax
Day 2 – Tokyo
– Senso-Ji temple and Asakusa
– Walk around Ginza District
– Dinner in Roppongi
– Maybe hit Tokyo City View here
Day 3 – Nara
– Travel to Nara (~4 hours)
– Nara Park
– Todai-Ji
– Kasuga Taisha
– Nakatanidou mochi if possible
Day 4 – Osaka
– Travel to Osaka (~1 hour)
– Dotonbori
– Take a ramen cooking class
– Visit Umeda Sky Building
Day 5 – Osaka
– Himeji Castle
– Stop in Kobe for lunch (any good spots I would appreciate, specifically for trying Kobe Beef)
– Go to a Hanshin Tigers game at night
Day 6 – Osaka
– Osaka Castle
– Americamura
Day 7 – Hiroshima
– Train to Hiroshima (~2 hours)
– Traditional Japanese archery class (1 hour)
– Atomic Bomb Dome
– Peace Memorial Park
Day 8 – Kyoto
– Train to Kyoto (~2 hours)
– Nishiki Market
– Gion District
– Maybe visit an Onsen this day if we can squeeze it in
Day 9 – Kyoto
– Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
– Monkey Park
– Golden Temple
– Tenryu-Ji
Day 10 – Kyoto
– Fushimi Inari Shrine
– Kiyomizu-Dera
– Pontocho
– Maybe try a tea ceremony if we can fit it in
Day 11 – Kanazawa
– Train to Kanazawa (~2 hours)
– Kenroku-en Gardens
– Tea ceremony here if we can’t in Kyoto
– Higashi Chaya District
Day 12 – Mt Fuji
– Train to Tokyo (~2 hours)
– Bus to Mt. Fuji (~ 2 hours)
– Hike up to 8th station where we are spending the night
Day 13 – Mt Fuji
– Finish the hike up for sunrise
– Hike down
– In between trying to visit Aokigahara or just taking in lake Kawaguchi
Day 14 – Tokyo
– Bus to Tokyo (~ 2 hours)
– Shinjuku
– Shibuya and Shibuya Crossing
Day 15 – Tokyo
– Tsukiji Fish Market
– TeamLabs
– Golden Gai
Day 16 – Tokyo
– Hit whatever in Tokyo we missed
– would love some good recommendations here
Day 17 – Flight
– Fly home at 10 am
Once again, any suggestions would be hugely appreciated as I have never been and do not know if this schedule is too much or little. Additionally, would love to hear about some cool places I might have missed. Lastly, thank this subreddit so much as all the other posts have been a huge help in putting this plan together!
