Moving from Chiba to Fukuoka – what are my transport options?

I moved around Chiba and Tokyo a few times where I used moving services but the distance is not that large so it was easy to find affordable options. However, I made a quote with a company recently that wants to charge 500,000¥ for one trip with a truck to move my small furniture and my belongings to Fukuoka. They say the cheapest they can go is 350,000¥ if I move in a different date (I would need to move by October 1st). I know this is a pretty large distance to move but the price seems steep. Does anyone have recommendations of companies or services for me to use? Thanks!

  1. Hire a van and drive yourself? Larger companies let you drop off at a different store. It’ll raise the price but still far cheaper than half a mill! You could buy a truck for that.

  2. I used Yamato’s home moving service before.

They give you 100 x 100 x 170 boxes to put large furniture items in and they send it to your new place along with your boxes of all other small things.

It is marginally cheaper in that all of it goes through normal yamato shipping channels and it isn’t a dedicated truck and driver for all your things.

  3. sell your furnitures, buy a new one, it will be way cheaper in that. or use yamato

  4. I’ll drive a truck for you if you pay for its rental/highway tolls/pizza/whatever and let me stop by Shin-Yokohama to pickup a 65″ TV I need to drop off in Fukuoka. I can even take the rental truck back to Kanto when you’re done.

  5. You have to play these moving companies off against each other. Show the quote to company B, who’ll under cut A. Then show company C the B quote etc etc until it comes down to a price that is not absurd.

I moved a family apartment worth of stuff from Kyushu to middle of Honshu for about 180,000 yen but that was around 8 years ago.

  6. ハート引っ越しセンター, assuming you have nothing special and box things yourself should be around 150000? Just tell them you have another quote for 180000 or so and see what they offer. Still steep, but I mean they also have to eat.

  7. There is an overnight ferry from Yokosuka. You can rent a van, have someone drive it to there, then you sit on a boat and just drive an hour into Fukuoka.

This would be cheap if you can pull it off.

I live in Fukuoka, so feel free to message any questions!

  8. I used Yamato from Kyushu to Aichi…they had a single room package and they stuffed that small cage, for lack of a better word, to the brim.

Do not try to ship your bed. I misread and it was 20k.and not 10k as I thought.

Cheaper to buy when you move.
