Nah fuck that, I am for bullet climbs.
The lodges are shit. Like enjoy your 600 yen cup noodle and then hard wooden floor filled with people snoring all around. No way would I ever pay for such crap.
From the 5th station it was 5 hours up and 3 hours down. There’s absolutely no reason to stay the night in a hut unless you want to wake up before dawn and literally stand in a long line to reach the summit so you can brag that you saw the sunrise from the top of Fuji. The “communities” just want the people to be limited to those they can make money off of.
I stayed in one of those mountain huts and it was the most miserable experience ever. I opted to go sit out on the tatami mats overnight instead of cramming into a bed space with a bunch of randos. They tried to send me back to the bed and I told them to fuck off. It was terrible. I recommend a day hike and then find a nice ryokan and relax in comfort afterwards.
