way better than being 上手’d
lol. I’ve gotten the, “but I’m speaking normally” before. and I’m like, no your not.
They were being polite, and just trying to make me feel better about myself. Which I appreciate. But I try not to take it too literally. Because they’re obviously speaking different than my Japanese co-workers normally do.
I do appreciate it more than “Nihongo jouzu,” and I think it’s less like, I dunno what the word is, dismissive maybe, than a short “Nihongo Jouzu”. Like it shows that you’re good enough for them to actually attempt to talk with you. So, that’s something to be proud of.
It means “can function normally in Japanese without any problem”
But if you didn’t know that, then maybe not….
“your japanese is really good!!!” = your japanese is shite
“your japanese is pretty good!” = your japanese is pretty bad
“your japanese is pretty bad” = your japanese is pretty good!
“your japanese is shite” = your japanese is really good
That’s one I haven’t heard before!
Love it
They normally say something along the lines of 「えすごっ違和感とかもないし普通に喋っとるやん!」
I got a “wow, you’re Japanese has gotten really すらすら recently. It’s not broken anymore!” Lol. I also know a 11 year old who responds with “日本語バカうまいじゃん” everytime he hears me speak Japanese (which not often)
