Is there any issue using a 110v 60hz hair dryer in Tokyo?

I know the power output is 100v 50hz but from my basic understanding, it would only be slightly underpowered and not overheat or burn up anything. But wanted to check and be safe.

  1. Technically, there _is_ the issue of using an electrical appliance that is not designed for or certified for use in Japan. If it does somehow manage to start a fire, a worst-case (beyond the fire itself) is that insurance companies may refuse any kind of liability, leaving you on the hook for the entirety of damages and with no legal recourse.

  2. It’s fine .. i do it all the time .. the only problem was a hot air popcorn maker my wife wanted that wouldn’t get hot enough to work ..

  3. You’ll lose about 20% of the airflow, and probably about 20% of the heat. (It’s likely designed for 120V, not 110V.) So as long as you don’t mind a pretty weak hair dryer, it should be fine.
