What type of permit / license might I need to start a shaved ice shop?

I live in Kyushu and recently began toying with the idea of starting a shaved business. Before I get too far ahead of myself though, I wanted to figure out if it’s something I can realistically do.

Like for example, would I need to pass some kind of Japanese test? Or take some kind of food safety course etc. even if it’s only shaved ice?

 

Anyone done something like this before, or have any knowledge about it?

Or a website I can go to that has this kind of information on it?

  1. I know for one you don’t even need to know Japanese, there is an American guy that started a burger shop in Fukuoka that barely speaks any Japanese, makes a great burger tho, but if you don’t have a permanent resident visa it would be more difficult

  2. Have you talked to a shop or festival stall that sells shaved ice/ kakigori かき氷? May be volunteer/work and make acquaintances with some of them and get the low down on the business.
