The daily Mercari disappering act

Sellers on Mercari, how do you respond to buyers that ask for discounts? I swear I get this message on a few items daily: コメント失礼いたします。購入を考えているのですが、こちらの商品はお値下げ可能でしょうか? Then I say it is fine and give a lower price but the potential buyer disappears without comment. This happens like 90% of the time. The other 10% either accepts, gives their offer or says they will think about it. Manners have changed over the years since I started selling 4 or 5 years ago.

  1. this is why i only sell on Yahoo auctions. no need to deal with this nonsense.

i guess you can put some message in every product description like i won’t entertain price reduction requests. it probably won’t work tho.

  2. You can message if the buyer accepts the discount and if they do, you reserve (専用) the item for them with the new price. If they flake then you revert to the original price. There will be a higher chance of new buyer wanting to buy for the discounted price.

  3. I only drop the price when they say 即購入します. Otherwise, just a waste of time.

  4. Pretty much the opposite here but I always either say ‘sorry w fees and shipping it’s 厳しい’ or ‘xxx¥でよければ専用付けます’. Then if nothing happens just delete the comments. As mentioned though the cat’s pretty much out the fukuro by then.

  5. I delete their comment. The item I put on sale where they comment on already has “値下げ不可” on the item description.

  6. I just delete their comment. I only entertain discounting if it’s something that’s hard to sell or if I’m in a hurry.

  7. If they don’t give an offer, I generally say I can’t discount. I leave the comment for a few hours then delete all comments. If they give a reasonable offer, I just change the price and make a comment with a change to their price or one I am comfortable with. If they don’t buy it after 3-5 hours, I revert the price and delete comments. Often I sell it quickly after deleting comments and reverting the price.
