Itinerary Check: Tokyo/Japanese Alps/Hokkaido

Hi all,

Will be travelling to Japan for the first time next year in mid-January for two weeks with my partner. We’re big foodies and love all things historical and anime so we’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary as well as recommendations on places to eat and/or things to see and do where feasible.

Also, please note that we will be utilising coin lockers and luggage services to transport our bags and luggages around.

This is where things get a little rough as I feel the next couple of days will be quite full on in terms of travelling. Would really appreciate your feedback here.

  1. Looks like a fun but pretty busy trip, you’re gonna be spending a lot of time on public transport! I personally think the day 7 is too busy. I’d probably skip the ropeway and visit Shirakawa-go on the previous day, and go straight to Toyama from Takayama on the train. Be mindful that you’ll be right in the snow country and there’s a good chance that public transport could be affected too – I’d probably want to give myself a bit or leeway with flights!

  2. No stop in Kamikochi while you are in the Japanese alps? have you already been there before?

  3. Skip the beer muesem in Sapporo. It is out of the way and not worth it (I was there a few days ago). Your day already is very packed.
