FYI: Mobile ICOCA for iOS supports charging via foreign Visa credit cards

I know a lot of people for whatever reason want to charge their mobile SUICA with a foreign Visa card but can’t, so for now, it seems like foreign cards are working (via Apple Pay) to charge/top-up the newly launched Mobile ICOCA card.

ICOCA can be used anywhere SUICA can (for the most part), so it’s a good option for people who aren’t using commuter passes on SUICA.

  1. I am able to top up my SUICA with a foreign Mastercard via Apple Pay, but not with a Visa card from the same Revolut account.

  2. I wonder if this will charge as travel for cards like chase Sapphire to get the point multiplier.

  3. I thought it was just my credit card, I had no clue this was a widespread thing. I hate it, I buy a new commuter pass every couple of months, then scan the card into my phone and toss the physical card. Feels like such a waste, but I can’t renew my pass with my foreign Visa card 🤷🏼‍♀️
