Aftermarket Parts

Does anyone know the legality of aftermarket parts for cars? More specifically, my cars exhaust? I want to change it, but I don’t want to risk not passing the 車検 down the road

  1. When I bought my HKS exhaust it was rated to pass the test but idk if it’s changed since then, been about 2-3yrs since I bought it.

  2. You can get shaken-friendly exhausts which will pass, or you can get race-only exhausts which will not.

These days, most shops won’t install the race-only ones unless your vehicle is actually a track vehicle – there’s heavy penalties for a shop to install them on a street vehicle.

The race only exhausts may also fail roadside checks, but those are typically only done during a campaign in June (the equipment to test exhausts requires training and has to be carried around, most patrol vehicles don’t have it, and most cops aren’t trained to use it). If you fail a roadside check you’ll be required to report to the testing police station and prove that you’ve installed a compliant exhaust within 15 days.

Most other mods are legal as long as you don’t change the overall dimensions of the vehicle (super-tall wings, etc.) or allow the tires to protrude past the fenders, or generally compromise the safety of the vehicle. Engine swaps are pretty much a nonstarter unless it’s replacement engine from the same series.

  3. If it’s a reputable maker, they will advertise the exhaust as shaken certified. If you cannot find any information on their website (or by calling them) on whether your chosen exhaust is shaken certified, then I’d avoid it. It’s usually as simple as that – either it’s certified, or it’s not.

  4. All the parts that Spoon sells for the N-One are shaken legal, including the exhaust and big turbo.

I imagine its the same for their “big” car offerings.

  5. I believe if it has a JASMA stamp it’s g2g. At least my car passed shaken no problem with an aftermarket Maxim works header with the JASMA stamp.

I got a Fujitsubo cat back exhaust for my car recently. Not only does it have the JASMA stamp and compliance paper work it’s quieter than the OEM cat back exhaust lmao. It did change the tone though, it sounds smoother now. But absolutely quieter, especially inside my car. Instead of a bassy drone it’s now just quiet.

Don’t mess around with the cats too much. Test pipes are almost certainly going to be a fail (plus stinky and really obnoxious). Certain cats can fail shaken too. My buddy’s FD failed because it had an aftermarket cat of some sort. He had to source an OEM cat to pass.
