Hi all! This is my first trip to Japan and I want to make sure I/we’re not doing too much/missing anything I really should see! Backstory: me (61F) & my husband (56M) are going to visit our son (24M) who lives and works in Tokyo. Son teaches at a private school and only gets time off in the summer (many people have told me that it’s very hot in Tokyo in August). I’m pretty healthy and love to walk around places, unfortunately my husband isn’t as healthy and has Type 1 diabetes and some cardiovascular issues (his doctor’s have said he’s fine to travel, he just can’t walk as me. He can ride a bike fine, so we’re considering riding bikes to get around some places.
One note – As a Type 1 Diabetic, he sometimes has to eat immediately if his blood sugar is low. Will get lots of stares, bad looks? Should we try to explain?
Husband is a guitarist who likes old school Japanese metal like Loudness & 44 Magnum. I like Studio Giblie, cat cafes, DisneySea, that sort of thing. A lot of this is for my husband since I’m planning to visit again in a couple years, maybe with other family members. I decided not to go to Studio Giblie Park this time around because it seemed too far for such a short trip.
It’s also my son’s vacation, so he’ll be with us most of the time. He’s lived in Tokyo since April 2022.
Also wondering if we need a JR pass. And if we can send luggage ahead to another hotel if our hotel isn’t 4 star.
Day 1 August 7
Arrive at Haneda Airport 2pm
Son will meet us, go back to JR East Hotel Mets Kokubunji and rest (near where Son lives in West Tokyo – his place is super tiny and we can’t stay there- he probably wouldn’t want that anyway!)
Day 2 August 8 Tokyo
Either Guitar Street
OR
Metal clubs like Godz, Wildside, Antiknock, etc – we’re still getting information/researching
Is it possible to do both?
Day 3 August 9 Tokyo (& Yokohama?)
Either Guitar Street – Ochanomizu Meida Dori
OR clubs – husband is interested in Trash Zone in Yokohama – is that too far?
I’d like to go to a cat cafe but am waiting to see if we’re going to Yokohama
Day 4
Team Lab Planets (9 or 10 am entry)
After Team Lab Planets take the train to DisneySea and say the night
If we get there early enough,
Get 2 day tickets for DisneySea so we can go to the Park when we get there. It may be too much for my husband so he might go rest at the hotel (Tokyo Disney Celebration) and just get a 2 day ticket.
Day 5 August 11 (we found out this is a holiday)
Tokyo DisneySea
Leave that night & stay in hotel in Shinjuku (moderate business hotel).
Day 6 August 12
Mt Fuji and Hakone Bus Tour return by bullet train.
We decided to do a tour so there’s less walking for my husband. Plus my son is going to an Anime convention.
Day 7 August 13
Tokyo Morning Sightseeing Bus Tour
(Again, doing a tour so less walking for my husband)
Maybe go to another club?
Day 8 August 14
Studio Giblie museum (if we can get tickets)
Fly home at 9:55pm out of Haneda
Thanks in advance for your input! I really appreciate it!

If you haven’t booked already, I would consider swapping your Tokyo DisneySea day to another day than a holiday. DisneySea has crowd calendars to tell you how busy they expect it to be on that day, Google for more info.
