Concerta users – travelling out of / back into Japan

Just wondering if any Concerta users here can confirm whether or not I need any paperwork to come back into Japan with it for my forthcoming trip. Is the Concerta card enough, or nothing at all?

I asked my doc, but he wasn’t aware of any need.

The last thing I want after a gruelling 40+ hours of travel is to be held up and interrogated by customs for “drug” offences…

TIA.

  1. I went through this same worry and experience in March. I ended up just having my medicine, my kusuri techo (prescription book thing?), of course my card, and the explanation papers they give about the medicine just because I wanted every piece of documentation just in case.

I had no issue at all. Never even came up. Better to be over prepared than underprepared, but it helps that this is generally stuff we have for medicine anyway, thankfully!

I went Chubu -> Narita -> Vancouver -> the US and back with no problems, and kept everything in my carryon.

  2. was getting concerta as simple as talking to your regular doctor? I had a prescription growing up and I would like to be able to get concerta in japan, but how much stock do they put into old prescriptions?

  3. I don’t fly with it. I think it’s too much of a risk.

When I was travelling into the UK they stated I needed a translated letter from my doctor to bring concerta with me. Coming back into Japan with your prescription documentation seems like it would be ok (and I’m not sure what other evidence you could carry if you got it inside Japan) but I get searched every time I enter and I don’t want the hassle.
