(Itinerary) 24 Days Japan in October / November 2023

Hi,

I already posted an [Itinerary here on JapanTravel](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/13buskn/itinerary_second_trip_to_japan_october_to/) but after the last month I decided to rearrange my plans. I want to explore a little bit of Kyushu too and as I have to buy the voucher for the 21-day-Rail-Pass before October I can benefit from the lower price this year.So there is my new plan:

**Day 1 – October 17 / Tokyo**

arriving at NRT @ 3 PM. Traveling to Kanda, perhaps exploring the area a little bit. Grab some lunch.

**Day 2 to 4 – October 18 to 20 / Tokyo**

As I have visited Tokyo before, I will do everything spontaneous. Last time I visited Asakusa, Tokyo Sky Tree, Takeshita Street, Meiji-Shrine, Yoyogi-Park, Akihabara, Tokyo Metropolitan Gov. Building, Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, Tsukiji Outer Market, Imperial Palace Garden (some parts of it), Ginza, Shinjuku, Shibuya,

**Day 5 – October 21 / Daytrip to Hakone or Fujikawaguchiko**

I missed Hakone last time in Japan. So I will visit Hakone and do the “round trip” (or a part of it) or visit Fujikawaguchiko and rent a bike. Depends on my mood.

**Day 6 – October 22 / Daytrip to Yokohama**

* Nippon Maru
* Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse
* Yokohama Landmark Tower
* Yokohama Chinatown
* Yamashita Park
* perhaps: Cup Noodle Museum

**Day 7 to 9 – October 23 to 25 / Kanazawa**

* Traveling from Tokyo to Kanazawa
* Kenrokuen Garden
* Nagamachi
* Higashi Chaya District
* Gyokusen-inmaru Garden
* Seison-kaku
* Castle Park
* Oyajima-jinja Shrine
* Omicho market

**Day 10 – October 26 / Daytrip to Kurobe Gorge or Toyama**

day trip to Toyama or Kurobe Gorge (not sure yet. any recommendations?)

**Day 11 to 12 – October 27 to 28 / Kyoto**

* Traveling from Kanazawa to Kyoto

As I have visited Kyoto before I have no special plans for Kyoto. Simply want to revisit the city and get the vibe.

**Day 13 to 14 – October 29 to 30 / Fukuoka**

* Traveling from Kyoto to Fukuoka
* Nanzoin
* National Museum Kyushu
* Kaidan-In
* Shofuku-ji
* Fukuoka Castle
* Fukuoka Tower
* Ohori Park
* Kushida-jinja Shrine

**Day 15 – October 31 / Daytrip to Dazaifu**

* Komik-zenji
* Dazaifu Tenman-gu
* Kaidan-in
* Kanzeon-ji
* exploring the area

**Day 16 – Nov 1 / Fukuoka and Yufuin**

Starting my day in Fukuoka, later traveling to Yufuin, staying in a Ryokan for the night

**Day 17 to 18 – Nov 2 / Kumamoto**

* Traveling to Kumamoto, staying for 1 night
* Kumamoto Castle
* Suizenji Garden
* Hosokawa Family Mausoleum
* Honmyo-ji
* exploring the area

**Day 19 to Day 20 – Nov 3 to 5 / Kagoshima**

* starting in Kumamoto, traveling to Kagoshima
* Kagoshima Meji Restauration Museum
* Sengaen Garden
* Shirojama Park
* Day 20: trip to Sakurajima and exploring Kagoshima

**Day 21 – Nov 6 / ???**

**Day 22 to 24 – Nov 7 to Nov 9 / traveling to Tokyo on Nov 7, staying in Tokyo for 2 days**

From Kagoshima it will be a 7 hr ride with the Shinkansen. I am not sure if I want one or two last days in Tokyo (I prefer two at the moment) to calm down before the flight, grab some souvenirs etc.

**Nov 10**

Flight back @ 11 am

I am open for any good idea/tips etc. Also for good things in Tokyo I missed before and should see. The most important parts I don’t know yet are:

**a.) Kagoshima**

Are 2,5 days too much? I don’t want to do “full speed” the complete vacations, sometimes I need to speed down a little bit. Are there perhaps any good “easy” day trips I could consider?

**b.) Day 21 – Nov 6**

I think one more day in Kagoshima would be a waste of time. So I am open for any good idea. In the worst case I will extend Kyoto for 1 day. Worse things happen at sea 😉

Thanks in advance for any advice. This sub helped me a lot with my researches!

  1. Just a few ideas for the Yokohama leg: Nissan Global HQ Showroom (if you are into cars), Shiseido showroom (I think its a cool architecture + relaxing coffee there + bonus if you are into skin care and what not) + Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum (Versus cup noodle museum) for a more authentic old Japan vibe…

  2. You could consider visiting Hiroshima or Himeji on day 21 on your way back to Tokyo.

  3. For Fuji area, I’d look at the buses to and from Shinjuku?) to Fujikawaguchiko as the train is a lot of transfers and takes time if you only have a “day”. There are late night buses back, check the schedule and see.

  4. How about doing Shikoku before returning to Tokyo. Matsuyama, Takamatsu and the like of art islands such as Naoshima, Teshima and Shodoshima

  5. If you are already in Kagoshima it would be a shame to miss out on Yakushima.
