Japan post bank question

Good day!

My friend sent me some me money amounting to 65,000¥ through bank transfer to my Japanese post bank yesterday. It’s already a new day and Japanese Post Bank Office hours are about to end. How long do these local bank transfers usually take? I’m really concerned as he also lives in japan and has a Japanese bank account( not JP post) and the transaction was not an international remittance.

Thank you very much!

  1. Usually < 30 mins for interbank, instant to a few mins for jp post to jp post.

Does your friend have a receipt / history in their bankbook showing the account number and name it went to?

It’s possible they mistyped account # and the money went to some random place, but it would be possible to see that by checking the destination name.

  2. Few mins.

I always move money from Sony to UFJ bank and most of the time it takes less than 1 minute.

  3. I have Sony and JP and transfer between the two all the time and it’s instant. I would ask your friend to check their transfer history and make sure the details were correct.

  4. If not near instant, usually within 20 minutes for me. I second what the other guy suggested, double check he had the right details.
