Hey all,
For some reason I started reading Japan Today a few years ago, I knew it was pure trash from the minute I looked at it, but I think I enjoy it, kind of like reading a tabloid or watching a drama series. I’m pretty sick of reading it, also the comments section is super bad.
Looking to actually read something less frustrating, unbiased and informative.
Also something without a heavily censored comments section would be a bonus.
I’d be happy to pay for something if people thin it’s worth it.

Japan Today has the advantage of being free. It has stories from the wire news like Kyodo (which you could just as easily read on Kyodo’s site for free also), but yeah a lot of garbage stuff (those articles from Sora News, etc).
Japan Times has better content and some decent contributors, but its mostly behind a pay wall.
NHK World JPN is quite OK imo. Other than that, Japan Times maybe.
Yeah.. the vast majority of actually interesting domestic news stories do NOT get timely or detailed english coverage. Real shame, but I guess there’s just not much of a market.
In terms of volume, I think Japan Times or Asahi are best. As with any news source though they have their biases. Also, Japan Times is very America-oriented (lots of articles about american politics, etc.)

I miss Tokyo reporter, that was the best page for unbiased news.
