Best Pre-Paid Credit Card?

As the title suggests, looking for the best pre-paid credit card. Wasn’t able to find people’s insight or review regarding which pre-paid credit card would be the best one available when considering all the pros and cons. Hence, would appreciate if anyone could help me out.

So far, currently I am considering the Visa Prepe (Visaプリペ) and d Card Prepaid, both are by SMBC bank.

Thank you in advance!

  1. d card for me because works in Costco, has cash back, iD touchless, and works in apple pay.

  2. Technically the visa prepaid in the kombini has almost the same feature as the one SMBC has. So I think there shouldn’t be much differences between them? CMIIW

Another thing, are there any particular reason why would you get a prepaid card? If you have an account in SMBC you can convert your cash card into debit card. It’ll have exactly the same feature as prepaid but with the additional feature contactless payment. And it’ll be like Visa credit card, except it’ll take your money directly from your account right at the moment you make transaction.

Also if I’m not mistaken visa prepaid card has a limit and requires fee when you put money in it.

I have used visa prepaid in the past but I wasn’t satisfied as some of the vendors declined my transaction request. Thus changed to visa debit card of SMBC. It was 5 years ago tho, so not sure now.

  3. Best options are likely actually debit cards rather than prepaid credit cards.

Overall I would say Wise is best from a security standpoint because you can enable and disable each type of functionality from their app very easily. (Or from their website.) It’s also a MasterCard which should work in Costco, though I’ve never tried.

Sony’s Visa debit card gives cash back. 0.5% by default, pretty easy to get to 1%. Up to 2% is possible but more difficult/costly in terms of tied up capital.

Both offer excellent exchange rates for online purchases from overseas.

  4. I use LINE’s Visa Prepaid Card. Works with Apple Pay / iD touchless. I haven’t tried using it with a subscription yet.
