I went to get my VISA extension last month (26th May) but I have yet to receive the postcode to inform me that it is ready to pick up.
I’m trying to call them but I can’t seem to find the correct number (for Shinagawa, Tokyo that is). Can anyone help me here?
Usually I wouldn’t mind waiting but I’m going back to the U.K. in August so I’m hoping to pick it up before then.
IF it is not ready by then, can I use my expired residence card? There is a stamp on my card to show that it is being processed at the moment, would that be enough if I don’t received the card before I leave.
I arrive back in Japan (27th August) and my card expires on 24th August if that information helps.

Being out of the country when your current SOR expires (without having a new one) is a bad idea and will likely result in refused entry. (The 2month grace period does not apply here.)
Barring weird circumstances, it would be unlikely for a standard renewal to take more than 4-6 weeks. If you are particularly concerned you can contact Shinagawa.
Googling “tokyo immigration bureau shinagawa” will bring up its HP which contains a list of relevant phone numbers.
While it depends on your particular SOR, if you are on one of the more common work SORs, you are probably dealing with

Is the number for residency renewal evaluations, then there’s extensions based on status of residence.

It’s okay, the postcard came this afternoon.
Thanks anyway for the advice.
