Job trials?

Has anyone ever successfully passed a job interview, only to be offered a one day trial only to be told you’ll be notified in two weeks after a full day of working?

I was paid for the day and given lunch but feel like it was a waste of time as I’m looking for steady employment. In the interview they details the job so intently on hiring me

Has anyone else has this happened? Am I complete horse for chasing this carrot? Feels like such a waste of time 🤦‍♂️

  1. They probably wanted easy short term labor out of you. I’ve never done a one-day thing but that’s the impression I get from other similar stories.

  2. I’ve never heard of this.

But, worse case scenario you got some money and food. If they wanted you to do it for free, I’d say it’s a red flag.

I’d just keep job searching, and be pleasantly surprised if this company contacts you later to hire you.

  3. I’ve done trial exams for employment. Usually that will have a time limit to submit it. It’s obviously there to test your skills tough. Not a full day of work

  4. No, but I’ve had a company ask for complete outlines of project proposals as part of the interview process. At first I thought nothing of it, then realized… this company is collecting free ideas from potentially 100s of people…

  5. I was offered a one-week trial in the past that I didn’t take, and I’ve heard of similar stories but not for one day.

  6. From experience, that’s a test if you click culturally more than the job itself. Did you say hello to people around you? Make them feel okay about hiring a gaijin?

  7. It’s common in Japan to have 1-day internship, where you get a 1000 yen conbini voucher to play Lego for 2 hours.

  8. I had a one day **unpaid** kind of test. It was remote though but still was a full day of my free time.

Hey I ended up getting the job though so ymmv
