## Japan Entry Requirements

* Japan allows visa-free travel for [ordinary passport holders of 69 countries](https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html) (countries listed [here](https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/short/novisa.html)).
* If you are a passport holder of a country **not** on the visa exemption list, you will still need to apply for a visa. All requirements are listed [on the official website](https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html).
* As of April 29, 2023, Japan no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test ([official source](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/bordercontrol.html)). The COVID/quarantine section of Visit Japan Web has been removed.
* Tourists entering Japan should still have their Immigration process and Customs process fast tracked by filling out [Visit Japan Web](https://vjw-lp.digital.go.jp/en/). This will generate a QR code for Immigration and a QR code for Customs, which can smooth your entry procedures.
* **For more information about Visit Japan Web and answers to common questions, please see [our FAQ on the topic](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/wiki/advice/visitjapanweb/).**

## Japan Tourism and Travel Updates

* As of March 13, 2023, [mask usage is left up to personal choice and preferences in many circumstances](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/03/13/national/japan-mask-rules-caveats/). The government recommendation will only remain in place for medical institutions, nursing homes, and crowed buses/trains. That said, keep in mind that private establishments can still ask that you wear a mask to enter, and you should be respectful of those types of restrictions.
* Shops and restaurants often do temperature checks or require you to use hand sanitizer when entering a building, although you won’t be asked for any proof of vaccination.
* Some shops, restaurants, and attractions have reduced hours. We encourage you to double check the opening hours of the places you’d like to visit before arriving.
* There have been some permanent or extended closures of popular sights and attractions, including teamLab Borderless, Shinjuku Robot Restaurant, and Kawaii Monster Cafe. Check out [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/xqulaa/for_travelers_coming_to_japannew_and_gone/) for more detail.
* If you become ill while traveling, please see the instructions in [this guide](https://www.jnto.go.jp/emergency/eng/mi_guide.html).

  1. Anyone in here have feedback on these hotels:

    Miyako City Tokyo Takanawa

    The Chapter Kyoto by Marriott

    Blossom Hibiya Tokyo

  2. About the Visit Japan Web :

I’m going with my husband, my mother, and my father. We each have our own phone with our own Visit Japan Web account.

My question is: in the Declaration of Personal Effects and Unaccompanied Articles, there is the question “Number of Family members Traveling with You”

My husband thinks we should put “3” since we’re traveling together despite the fact we each have our accounts.

Meanwhile I think we should put “0” because we didn’t add anyone in the “Details of Family members Traveling with You” section, as we each have our own account.

    What should we do?

  3. Traveling to Japan next week, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka with a few day trips here and there.

Will be there 2 weeks. How much USD in cash should I convert to yen?

  4. Does anyone have any recommendations for what to do/eat in Tokorozawa? I’m going to a music festival at the Belluna Dome so I will be in the area for around 3 or 4 days.

Idk if I should just check in really late into the hotel so I can spend more time in Tokyo during the day since my time in Japan is limited.

  5. Hello, the visit japan web procedure is required for every visitor including the ones that are exempt of a tourist visa? In my case I’m from Spain and I will be travelling in September for 3 weeks. Do I have to compliment the inmigrarion form?

  6. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know where in Japan you can play Cho Chabudai Gaeshi? Thanks!

  7. i have a 9 hr layover in tokyo on the 2nd – i just want a “regular” meal – something nicer than bar food but not a $200 omakase. i tried finding reservations online bur most places are full. is it worth finding a place and making a reservation, or will i be okay if i just walk in someplace for dinner ? was hoping to go shopping in shibuya if anyone has recommendations in that area !!!

  8. Do they have Whatchamacallit candy bars in japan? They’re my favorite and I’d like to bring them for my airbnb hosts
