I’m planning on doing a late September Japan trip and wanted to visit Yahiko village.
I’m planning on doing things within the village itself: visit Yahiko Shrine, take the Mt Yahiko Rail, etc. But I am also planning on visiting Bandai-Asahi National Park as well as Hoshitouge Tanada – a rice field south of Yahiko village.
For those who have been to Yahiko village, how long would you recommend staying there? My estimate for a comfortable and relaxed stay (including everything I listed) is 3 full days. But If I can I could like to whittle it down to 2.5 days.
In addition, what ryokans do you recommend there that are fairly priced?

Is there a reason you are wanting to stay in Yahiko rather than Niigata city? Everything you listed for Yahiko can easily be completed as a day trip via the local train, Bandai-Asahi (assuming you are driving) is closer from Niigata, and the rice fields (which is a nice view but a quick visit) are only marginally closer from Yahiko vs Niigata.
I’ve not been to this specific place, but generally speaking, I found that most small town/village mostly require a day to hit the highlight, I would even say that most city are fine with one day for the highlights, sometimes 2.
I would do two days if I have to rely on public transport and there is things that are spread around the town, if I want to go hiking or do an activity that will take longer. Otherwise you often need to do day trips around to justify spending more than two days in a small location.
