Thoughts on Todai’s Biological Science English program/Todai in general?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school and looking for future universities to apply to, and I was very pleased to find out Tokyo Uni offers a Biological Science program in English. Though I’m not completely sure if it’s the best choice. I would really like to know your guy’s thoughts on this program, and past experiences if you have any.

Also, is there anything else I should do to become more qualified for Todai?
For reference: I currently have a 3.9 GPA, involved Science Olympiad (+many other clubs/extracurricular activities), and plan on switching out my elective for an extra science class my senior year. Anything else I can do to stick out?

Tips and responses are appreciated!

  1. Todai (not the crappy Korean managed “Japanese” seafood buffet that existed in the early 2000s around California) is the highest ranked University in Japan overall.

  2. According to this site https://schoolynk.com/media/articles/46a39719-a3c2-415c-9eb1-7a7370d81bac

    >In addition, average scores of successful applicants for the 2019 enrollment are:
SAT: a combined score of 1527 for Reasoning section
ACT: an average score of 34
IB: total of 39 out of 42

If you plan to work in Japan, a Todai degree will look really good, but if you study your field in English you’ll still be at a disadvantage against Japanese language educated students. Outside of Japan? A US university with similarly rigorous admissions standards would probably carry more weight.

  3. This reply is grossly late but I’m a sophomore too who’s also interested in todai. Tokyo uni’s bio science program tho is for grad school iirc, so I don’t think you can go into it as an undergrad. However, utokyo has a program called PEAK for undergrads where you can choose either envisci or japan/east asia studies. I don’t think it’s helpful though for working in the US or anything, so it’s probably not a great idea if you’re not planning on going to grad school after or stay in japan.

I don’t think todai is honestly too hard to get into as an international applicant and it’s probably not crazily selective like the ivies or mit type schools in the us. lmk if u ever wanna talk about applications or anything 🙂 im also interested in the sciences and studying in japan.
