I used Busuu as a beginner and thought it was a fun and entertaining course to do on the side. It was written in a very engaging tone and had lots of beautiful pictures of japan, which for me was perfect for some extra motivation (next to the considerably drier Genki textbooks, which I used as my main resource). However, those fun little 5-10 minute Busuu lessons are not going to teach you even remotely as much as sitting down with a textbook for a few hours.
