Baseball field reservations?

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had experience using or renting a baseball field in Tokyo/Kanagawa.

I was thinking for setting up a game for me and my friends, but wasn’t sure if i could just walk up to a field and start playing, or if there is a form or number I need to call to reserve one.

I see the baseball diamonds on the Tama river and I often see them empty. But I don’t want to accidentally take a field from some little league.

If anyone has any experience with this let me know how to proceed. I don’t need a stadium or anything, just a field. All I can find online are rentals for large stadiums.

  1. I’ve heard you can reserve them. No idea what the conditions are. Try asking at the local ward office. I know that if you’re a resident of one of the wards on the river (eg Ota-ku), you can rent facilities along the river like tennis courts and soccer fields for quite cheap.

On weekdays, there’s hardly anyone around so you could probably just jump on a field. I used to play with a couple of friends every Monday and the ground security ojiisans rode by and never bothered us. They kicked us off soccer fields but not the baseball fields. A whole team of players might be another story though.
