air conditioning unit doesnt really change between temperature settings.

So it is getting hot now, and I started to use my AC in my apartment and i had it set at 25C but it didnt feel cold. So I played around with the temperature and set it at 16C and it felt exactly the same. I put it to its highest at 30C and it felt the same too. I’m going to assume this AC unit isnt working properly. I noticed it wasnt cooling my apartment down and over the weekend i cleaned the filter and bought one of those air con sprays to kill mold etc. I thought it might help but the temperature is the same no matter what temperature i set it at. 16C should be very cold and it just felt like slightly cool air. My question is, if i bring this up with the rental company, will they replace it if its faulty or are they going to make ME pay for a new one/repairs? What can I do here?

Edit: yes I’m aware of which button is cool and which is heat hah.

  1. Your coolant may be run out of. Had similar issue – the company came for cleaning but left without payment saying that coolant is not there anymore likely to corrosion and the only fix is new AC. Landlord purchased a new one.

  2. You don’t understand how an air conditioner thermostat works. The temperature of the air coming out of it doesn’t change. It will just continue running until the room reaches the set temperature.
That said, if the condenser outside is dirty it will blow less cool air.

  3. Sorry for the *did you try turning it off and on* answer buuuut are you sure it’s on the correct setting?

  4. Post a photo of your remote? There are probably different settings for heating, cooling, maybe drying and just fan.

Having the temperature set to 16C if it’s on the heat setting won’t make your room cooler 🙂

  5. Could show a photo of the controller to see if the settings are right. But if you are sure it is. Then maybe you ran out of gas?

  6. This sounds like a classic case of having the aircon on the “heating” setting instead of “cooling”

  7. Might be worth having the unit professionally cleaned. Does wonders on efficiency and quality.

  8. If you leave it on any temp will it eventually cool the room? It sounds like you’re making the mistake many do thinking the temperature of the air coming out changes based on the temperature you set. They don’t have different levels of cool air, it’s either on or off and the temp you set will just have it run until the room temp reaches your set temp.

If you put it on say 20 and let it run a while and it won’t cool the room air at all, then you have a problem. Just have to always remember 16 vs 25 the air coming out will not be a different temperature

  9. In a rental, unless you broke it on purpose, the AC is the responsibility of the owner.

I’ve never heard of a tenant being charged for an AC and I worked in real estate for 5 years.

  10. Most likely,

The pressure in the loop from the outside unit to the inside unit has likely gotten too low. Basically the heat or cold can’t be transferred from one to the other very effectively.

They should check and correct this when they do maintenance on the outside unit.

It’s common after a few years of operation with no one checking it.

  11. I had this issue during the winter, if it’s faulty it’s you landlords responsibility to replace it. I went through the (English speaking) real estate company to contact the landlord since my Japanese is buns.

If you work normal hours it’ll take about a month for replacement. Initial check, some solution attempt, replacement installation.

    I’d contact someone asap
