Friends who took the JLPT N5 (2023/07/2), How did it go?
I took it today for the first time… I felt good about the Vocab and grammar parts but the first half of Listening was a hell….
I knew what they said but I got focused on the whole thing then I forgot the part what the woman or man said. It was very tricky. ;/

You should read the answer first then listen to the question in the beginning. While listening you have to find out the part that match/related to the answer then listen to the question again in the end to make sure. That’s how i do
Listening was horrible for me. Turns out I didn’t practice enough. I’m lucky if I get the minimum score on this part. The vocabulary/grammar/reading went really well.
The listening section [practically went like this for me after the reading section](https://www.reddit.com/r/translator/comments/14ok8sh/unknown_english_meme_translation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
Vocabulary gave me the most problem surprisingly. It’s harder than the practice sheets, that’s for sure.
i swear for the listening the second half’s answers were never the third option. i answered the best i could but i definitely got some of them wrong if none of them were option 3 😫
I was having a good feeling with the reading part but then I fckd up the listening section…. now idk of I did well or not. XD 😆 I am scared for the outcome. Aaaaa
I found the first 2 sections of the test a total breeze. The listening was extremely difficult for me though. I understood all the questions, but the answers were so long or misleading, I just couldn’t follow. The listening questions were so much harder than the ones I’ve been practising with on youtube.
I’ve spent every day of the year studying for this test so I’m feeling a bit deflated. Did anyone else feel like this regarding the listening?
Will be taking N5 this December.
That said I have a question regarding the Listening Portion for the N5 exam:
I tried listening to an N5 sample listening exam:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aqVJS6QOoY
And I realized that I can’t pick up the meaning of all sentences that they are saying =(
I can only understand fragments of what is being said (e.g. the first question regarding the kids socks where he asked “Kudamono no eto…doubutsu no e o arimasu?”)
But for the others, it seems so fragmented to me (which maybe a problem since they only repeat the question once).
What would you suggest so I can improve my listening?
I am currently in Chapter 4 of Genki 1.
Should I complete all of Genki 1 before going to into any Listening Practice?
Or is there another method / technique?
