Travel/health insurance advice needed

Currently an English teacher in Japan. My work contract finishes at the end of July, as will my health insurance. I will travel around Japan for a month before going back home permanently at the end of August.

1. Should I get some sort of insurance for 1 month when my health insurance ends?
2. If so, any recommendations?

Most of the ones I have looked at (tokio omotenashi policy, World Nomads) seems to be geared towards people that are yet to arrive in Japan. I am unsure if I am able to purchase it while currently residing in Japan.

Any help appreciated.

  1. If you are still on your working visa when travelling around, you are actually required to enroll in national health insurance and pension.

  2. You need to sign up to national health insurance and pension if you are still here on a working visa after you leave your job. It’s a requirement.

  3. If you finish the paperwork to stop it .. don’t sign up for it again … especially since you’re leaving… I would try and find a travel plan on line for the date your national insurance expires to the date you leave …
