I am planning to move out outside Shibuya very soon

I have lived in Harajuku for almost two years, and I am planning to move out. I am a die-hard anime otaku, and I want to move to where I can comfortably go to Tokyo Big Site, Makuhari Messe, and Akihabara. I am considering moving near Shin-Kiba Station because of the proximity to those places I mentioned. Has anyone had an experience of living there?
Thank you 🙇

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Why not live closer to Ikebukuro or Akiba (you mentioned Akiba but seem to want to commute there via Shin-Kiba which is….weird?)? Ikebukuro in particular can be quite cheap, and it has tons of anime goods for sale—plus the Yamanote will take you right to Osaki and the Rinkai Line there to get to Big Sight quickly.

  3. I don’t know why my post got downvoted. Did I write something wrong? 😕

  4. True anime otaku live in Suginami which is colloquially called “Anime Town.” Within a 3 minute walk from Ogikubo station, you have Studio Trigger, MAPPA, ComixWave (Shinkai Makoto studo), a branch of TOEI. An animation museum. You are 6 minutes from Nakano Broadway on train.

  5. Shin-kiba had a bit of a bad reputation associated with it after a man was killed in a park there about…23 years ago. (I believe it was a gay hate crime, but I don’t remember the details exactly.) I wouldn’t say this is any indication of how it is currently, though. East Tokyo is nice, I live in an area close to Shin-Kiba. You’ll also be close to Disney, and Tokyo station isn’t far. Narita is close too if you do international travel. There’s also a big park in Kasai.

  6. how often do you go to tokyo big site?

how often do you go to makuhari messe?

how often do you go to akiba?

  7. I’m not into anime, but wouldn’t you want to go to Akiba a lot more often than the other two?

Have you been to Shin-kiba? There really isn’t much there. I’ve stayed there a few times for work, but it’s mostly warehouses and small factories.

  8. I like Chiba, cost performance for apartments is decent, you have everything you need, and Tokyo is not that far away. Never lived in Tokyo, but I know all my friends who live in Tokyo would not move outside because they have everything in 300 meter walking distance. I don’t mind to walk 10 or bike 5 minutes to the grocery store. Also a car can be an option. I live a few more stations outside closer to Makuhari Messe

  9. Have you considered Toyosu? Bit bland but decent access to the three places you mentioned and there is a big mall / cinema complex there. It is pretty cheap too.

  10. I think Asakusabashi or Bakurocho may be a interesting option for you. Not so close from Makuhari or Big Site though.

  11. I used to live in toyocho in kotoku and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tozai is hell during rush hour but ok on weekends, though I guess you’ll still have to deal with the hellish crowds when switching at funabashi when going to messe.

At least for airport access it’s real nice having a bus then goes to Haneda near the station, and for Narita you can ride to kasai and jump on a bus from there.

Way more stuff to do and good food near toyocho and kiba compared to shin kiba.

  12. A lot of Olympic events were held in that area. Lots of parks. Seems like a pleasant place to live.

  13. Shin-Kiba is very industrial (warehouses, truck stops, etc). And you deal with all the foot traffic for people going to disney everyday. I lived near Tatsumi on Yurakucho line before and that area was nice. Lots of tower mansions and it was a quick transfer away from Akiba and right next to Big Site. Also walking distance / 1 stop away from Toyosu which has a nice mall and places to eat. I used to go to comiket all the time when I lived there, it was nice getting home quick. Honestly it got boring, I go every few years now. To avoid super crowded train I go an hour after opening and leave an hour before closing. Then again I don’t wait in long lines, I just walk around and buy whatever isn’t sold out at that point.
