Going to Japan for the first time, looking for your expertise!

Hello,

We are travelling to Japan for the first time this October for our honeymoon. We have a basic outline of places to visit below. Looking for input to see if we are doing too little or too much or completely missing key places to go for first timers.

* Day 1 – Arrive in Tokyo (Narita) around 4pm and make way to hotel. Looking to stay in the Shiomi area. Any better recommended areas to stay for first timers?

* Day 2 – Skytree (or should we do Shibuya Sky instead?), Sensoji at Asakusa and Akihabara

* Day 3 – Disney Sea

* Day 4 – Full day trip to Mt Fuji with a tour company (any suggestions for a tour company?)

* Day 5 – Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, Shibuya Crossing

* Day 6 – Tsukiji Fish Market, Ginza, Hie Shrine

* Day 7 – Travel to Kyoto, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Fushimi Inari Taisha, Nishiki Market

* Day 8 – Travel to Osaka, Dotonbori, Shinsekai

* Day 9 – Universal Studios Day 1

* Day 10 – Universal Studios Day 2

* Day 11 – Travel back to Tokyo, Mario go kart near tokyo bay (any better suggestions?), Team Labs Planets

* Day 12 – Leave from Haneda in the late afternoon

On top of this, we realized we have left out the Harry Potter Studio Tour and a Whiskey Distillery tour from our planning and would need to incorporate or substitute it in there.

Thank you to all in advance for your great advice.

  1. I get it, 12 days in japan, and you want to do and see everything.

    I will tell you right now, day 7, if you manage to do all that, it was not one bit enjoyable. and if you only have time for one day in kyoto, spend it in higashiyama

  2. >Looking to stay in the Shiomi area.

    Why ?
    There is not much of anything interesting in the surrounding area…

    >Day 11 Mario go kart near tokyo bay (any better suggestions?)

    Yes, “don’t drive a tiny death can car on busy streets with driving habits you don’t know”. Go to the Harry Potter thing instead, at least it won’t bother the locals.

  3. Couldnt think of a more boring area (Shimoi) to stay in Tokyo. Definitely look for somewhere more central to get the most out of your stay.

  4. For a honeymoon this seems far too hectic and bland.

    I‘d strongly suggest adding a good ryokan and onsen experience, even if it takes a day or two. Kawaguchiko would be my suggestion (and in place of your Fuji trip), but it might be a tad late to book one for October now. Hakone and Nikko are alternatives, though it may be worth it to go really out of the way into Tohoku (e.g., Ginzan onsen) for example.
