> The bar’s 52-year-old owner was also quoted as telling the police, “I thought I could smell something like gas or sewage in the smoking area, and when I used a lighter to light a cigarette there was this explosion.”
Yup, now we’re cooking with gas!
I don’t ever remember seeing anything like this, but have there ever been PSA-style warnings on the telly over the years about what to do when there might be a gas leak?
For example, I vaguely remember back in the UK we had warnings about not switching electrical things on/off if there’s a smell of gas, because the spark will ignite it. Likewise, smoking a fag while thinking about what to do was definitely not right on.
I would have expected folks here to be up to speed on this sort of thing, what with gas leaks right after earthquakes, etc.
Maybe the gas company could issue scatch-n-sniff cards in the next bill, so that people know what it smells like.
At least the silly sod didn’t kill anyone this time.
