Renting mobility devices (scooters etc)

Hello everyone,

My husband recently had an unfortunate bike accident and he had to undergo orthopedic surgery to get the (multiple) fracture(s) fixed.

He’s currently recuperating at the hospital. His leg is healing well, but he will need physical therapy for a few months and we are looking into mobility devices that will make his life easier in the next 3-4 months.

During his hospital stay he is learning to use crutches and a wheelchair. We are thinking about knee scooters 🛴, but we are open to other ideas if you had a similar injury in the past. Would you please recommend us places where we could rent a scooter for a few months for non permanent disability?

Many thanks!

  1. I personally have never seen a knee scooter for rental in Japan myself, sorry. But when I badly fractured my ankle and had to stay off it for months, I got around the house in an office chair with wheels. One with adjustable height and a back, so I can use it like a knee scooter. I was also “lucky” that another one of my family members is physically disabled, so we already had a special wheelchair for bathing (there’s a hole at the bottom) that I could use so I didn’t have to stand or switch chairs or anything like that when taking a shower, and the bathroom was big enough so I could support my leg on the edge of the bathtub, wrapped in plastic bags, so that my cast didn’t get wet.

If you can’t find any knee scooter rentals, I hope my office chair idea helps. (I also suggest asking the hospital!)
