Any Nail Salon Owners Here?

I have been offered to purchase an existing nail salon. The Japanese lady who owns it just got her visa for Australia and would like to move there soon so she is a motivated seller. The price is extremely fair.

The location is decent and she is constantly booked. Many regulars. 2 staff who will stay on. The financials look good. The rent is reasonable.

I have my cosmetology license from overseas. Is it valid here?

Edit 1: Visa not needed.

What else should I consider?

  1. Your license isn’t valid here. Most overseas licenses aren’t valid abroad.

But also a thing you should consider is if you are on PR or another visa that allows this work like spousal.

Nail salons are a dime a dozen. You need a valid reason to have something like the business manager visa. Since there’s little to no reason for a foreigner to need that visa to run a business since it’s literally a popular in-demand market flooded with capable citizens it’s unlikely you’d be approved since “well why take that away from another citizen.”

    No.

Does your current status of residence allow you to operate a small business?

  3. You mentioned 2 staff but how important is her role and involvement in the day-to-day? It could fall apart if she’s an amazing boss (losing employees) or brings in a lot of the income with her own appointments.

  4. dated a nailist, she said she always wanted to quit as the job required chatting all the time with clients to get them to come back, even if not interested. So its more than just doing nails, apparently,

  5. It may be a fair price but not if it turns out the business hasn’t been paying taxes for years. Does the lease allow for change of ownership, etc etc
