Mobile Network for US Unlocked Note 20 Ultra?

So I got a plan at UQ mobile but the sim doesn’t work with my unlocked Note 20 Ultra. I think it might be because they only work with phone models offered by au. I’m using a cheap 5000yen phone right now, but at some point I wanna switch to a provider that works with my usual phone.

Does anyone with a Note 20 Ultra know what carriers work? I heard Y!Mobile works, but I’d like to make sure and if possible hear about other options.

  1. I have a Note 20 ultra that’s unlocked and I can confirm that I can use it on UQ. I bought a OnePlus 8t about a year ago and that didn’t work without some work arounds for voice, so I ended up getting an iphone and selling the 8t.

  2. The simplest solution for you would be to buy a smartphone sold in Japan.

I assume you have the US model, which supports the following frequencies:(from: [https://www.kaigai-keitai.jp/shopdetail/000000002207/](https://www.kaigai-keitai.jp/shopdetail/000000002207/))

    4G LTE:2 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 13 / 14 / 25 / 26 / 29 / 30 / 38 / 41 / 46 / 48 / 66 / 715G:2 / 5 / 12 / 25 / 41 / 66 / 71 / 260 / 261

On the other hand, the AU (include UQ mobile) requires the following:

    4G LTE:1 / 3 / 11 / 18 / 19 / 26 / 28 / 425G:3 / 28 / 77 / 78 / 79 / 257

In other words, the Note 20 Ultra US model cannot receive most of the signals that AU is transmitting (it will only work if you are lucky enough to be on 4G band 26 where you are)

And, unfortunately, docomo and softbank frequencies seem to be in a similar situation…

I had the same problem, but I didn’t buy the plan: the guy at the UQ store tried out one of their SIM cards in my US phone before selling me the plan, and it didn’t work.

I ended up going to Bic Camera and getting a plan with IIJmio. It’s about the same price, it’s on the NTT Docomo network, and works fine. There too, the guy tried out one of their SIM cards on the phone to be sure it worked before selling me the plan.
