Hello! We are a couple in our early 30s doing a 10 day trip to Japan. I went before, in 2018, but it’s my partner’s first time.
The thing that makes this trip cramped is certainly Naoshima (6h and 4h travel legs), but my partner feels very strongly about it. She’s an experienced solo traveler, too, and plans packed itineraries. Worst case, if I’m very tired from the long travel, I will just hang out while she binges the museums there.
Most of the itinerary focuses on her interest in art/museums, but we are also both interested in anime and gaming. And I am a HUGE foodie. But I don’t really like long lines. So I probably need to think about places that will usually have open tables/walk in space, for meals where making a reservation is impossible or inconvenient. The current food plan is a little ambitious…
For the below list of stuff, lodging is already booked, but we haven’t bought tickets or made reservations for anything on specific days. So I’m wondering if folks have any advice to minimize travel within individual days or move things around. Particularly in Tokyo/Kyoto.

Just some thoughts:
Day 1: go to Shibuya directly and put bag in locker untill done with your evening plan
Day 2: will you have jet lag? Then go for Meiji-ji and Harajuku instead
Pressed post button 🙁
Day 4: Senso-ji is very crowded, go early or on a weekday
Perhaps a night bus now?
Day 5: Naoshima pumpkin was destroyed, dont know if its replaced
How about Shodoshima? I loved that island!
Day 9: your base is Fuji but you want to see the pagoda on the other side of Mt Fuji. Better go to Kawaguchiko instead.
Im trying to be helpfull, but I feel you will flash through your journey of Japan.
Hi!
I am unsure when you are planning to go to Japan, but weather can really play a huge role. I’m in Japan right now, and it is incredibly hot and humid. Trying to get as much done right now, is a challenge, so if this 10 day trip is during Summer, no matter how fit and in shape you are, unless you are from somewhere hot and humid and spend a lot of time outside in the heat and humidity, lots of sightseeing might be hard.
I don’t know what you define as evening, but the latest last order I saw for A Happy Pancake was 19:40 and sometimes it is as early as 18:45 on week days.
Good luck!
