Can ADHD diagnosis for stronger medicine affect employment opportunity or other things? Anyone have experience here in this?

Hello, I am a grad school student and have been using the medicine prescribed and it works for focusing, however it doesn’t stop the obsessive thinking like strong meds including concerta. I have a doc who is willing to prescribe but she gave me a form that uploads it and basically makes it somewhat public info. Meaning if I go to work for a company I might have to put ADHD as a disability. ADHD meds in the past were a cure for depression unlike antidepressants and helped me focus on moving forward in goals without getting side tracked. I am just worried, since I plan on living here after graduation? You can’t even drive in concerta here, when I know for a fact it would reduce my risk of an accident. This is also a concern.

Any insight into this??

Edit: for this downvoting? Why? This is a genuine concern, how is this negative?

  1. Unfortunately any prescription drug for mental sickness here will have social consequences.
For instance, getting a home mortgage will be much more complicated, life insurance too.

However, if you feel the need to get treated is vital, then you shouldn’t think about it and get treated. Your health should come first.

  2. I didn’t upload anything when I got prescribed concerta. You have to register for a concerta card, which you need to fill prescriptions.

  3. Have you tried getting the thoughts out of your head when you have spurts of obsessive thinking? Try downloading the Thinkdrop app and ask yourself ‘why’ 4-5 times for every thought you put in there. I have ADHD and this has managed to stop me in my tracks so many times.

  4. I needed a health check for a home loan and used one I recently got for a new job. Forgot I told that doc I takes meds for anxiety.

    Home loan denied.

  5. Nah. Nobody will know about you and your prescriptions unless you tell them. Most won’t bother with combing through public registers for things like this every time they hire unless they are a weirdo that has it out for you, in which case it is much, much better if you just don’t bother with them

I would recommend staying away from kitchen jobs at busy restaurants if your ADHD isn’t the type that allows you to zone in when things are extra stressful and overwhelming. For your own sanity.

Every post in this sub is downboated unless it’s about:

    1. weed / illegal drugs
    2. mundane shit like “here’s a guide how I passed my drivers license test”
    3. “muh japanese wife” about to leave me
    4. looking for divorce lawyer (proceeds to only explain one side of the story)

  7. If your meds are strong enough that you get a disability card 障害手帳, then it will make it EASIER to get a job because Japanese companies are required to have 1% of their employees be disabled or they are fined. Though I have always had the concern that it might limit career progression or salary, but you don’t have to disclose it to the company, though they can fire you afterwards for not disclosing it because you “lied in the interview”. But then again it’s also a little harder to fire disabled people compared to normal seishain.
