How does one apply to an International School?

Taught in Japan for 10 years. Went back home, became a qualified HS teacher and taught for 13 years. (Able to teach multiple subjects).

Thinking about returning (for wife and her family), but would only accept an international school teaching position.

Where does one find a good website to send an application? Or… is it better to just send your resume to all the international schools in Japan?

*I’ve looked at Gajinpot, but was wondering if there were any others? Apologies for the self promotion and ignorance of job seeking sites. Also, any tips would be helpful!*

**Edit: Thank you for all those who gave advice and/or recommended those sites. I really appreciate it and it has sure helped me out a lot!**

  1. There is a website that requires a fee called tieonline that contains postings for international schools.

  2. SearchAssociates, Schrole, TES, or directly from the school websites if they advertise their roles there.

FYI the international school hiring season for 2023-24 already over. You might see some last minute listings still open though, but just be careful in your vetting not to mistake bilingual “international” schools for proper accredited ones.

  3. Directly on the school’s website. But you’ll need to wait until October/November as that’s when hiring season starts in earnest.

  4. At the school website, you can find a list of all the international school in Japan on wiki.

  5. teachinginjapan.com is where I found my position. I would also recommend looking up in the city you plan to be in and seeing what international schools are there. They probably have a website that will have job listings somewhere on it as well. Can find jobs that are not necessarily posted on other sites. What subject are you looking to teach?

  6. Japan is pretty competitive in terms of international schools as there aren’t that many. It would be advantageous for you to have experience teaching the IB program or at other international schools. It also depends on what subject you teach – maths and physics are much more in demand than history, for example.

  7. Tes.com/jobs, and international schools database.com for school websites with recruitment pages.
