Weird co-working office

I work from home and need to get out the house to work sometimes

I paid for a 3 month membership at a local co-working space. The person who runs the place made it clear that she was the boss when I first got my membership and kinda spoke down on the employees who worked for her in front of me.

Anyways, if I don’t go in the morning and come in the afternoon instead, she says ‘richado…osoi ne!’. Then if I don’t come in for a few days she says ‘richado…saikin zen zen konai ne!’

It feels kinda manipulative as she seems to have a controlling type of personality and I noticed she likes playing mind games with others. They don’t have many customers… I feel she’s trying to manipulate me into coming every day rather than just trying to make me feel welcome. When she says these things, she leaves a gap for me to say something back as if I need to explain myself.

I feel bad not renewing my membership as I can tell that she really needs the business and is probably grabbing at strings, but I just wondered has anyone else gone to a co-working space like this? Is there something I’m not getting, like the co-working spaces in Japan are actually supposed to be role-played as if it’s your actual work office with someone bossing you around to come in on time?

It feels like she’s paying me, not the other way around. This is a small place in Aichi by the way, not out in the city centre.

  1. I had considered a few spots before corona but never had anything like this.

Based on 1st comments about her I wouldn’t feel bad about not renewing

  2. She’s just making chitchat with you when you arrive. No need to take it personally.

Might be that this co-working space thing is quite new and she’s just a bit of a nosey bint. Some people are just like that. Sounds like she wants to gossip and is annoying.

  4. I don’t get this, please educate me if I don’t understand.

She’s just making cheeky comments first of all.

Also you are paying THEM to use their space, like she’s not your boss or related to your company at all, so can’t you literally just ignore her if you wanted?

This is written as if it’s your actual boss making comments to you in your actual office that hold some power.
