Looking for things to do in Kobe

In about two weeks I’ll be traveling to Kobe for the first time for a few days. I’m looking for any recommendations regarding fun activities, sightseeing, places to eat. All the tips and recommendations are appreciated!

  1. Sounds weird but I absolutely love the view of the bridge, also loved walking up the mountain paths to the middle of nowhere

  2. Not sure if its been cleaned up but motoko in motomachi was pretty fun if you are into grungy showa alleyway vibe.

  3. ハーバーランド is good for a stroll. Both in daytime and the evenings if you enjoy the waterfront, shopping and eating.

Although somewhat controversial, I do like ōji zoo…probably has something to do with having kids. It is quite cheap though, so you can go for just an hour or two and not feel like you’ve wasted a lot of money.

  4. I’m from Kobe and i will list you up a few things you can do/visit!
    • Ikuta Shrine
    • Kobe Harborland(Umie/Meriken Park/Maritime Museum/Anpanman Museum(if you have kids))
    • Chinatown
    • Rokko Mountain
    • Nunobiki waterfall
    • Nunobiki Ropeway
    • 1995 Earthquake Museum
    • Kitano and its foreign buildings as well as some interesting museums
    • Kobe Animal Kingdom

I might have forgotten lots more but these are the ones that come to my mind!

  5. -Rokko ropeway to get yourself acquainted with the area
    -Takenaka carpentry museum
    -Hyogo prefectural art museum
-Harbor Land for a walk as mentioned

If you are into alcohol, a visit to one of the Nishinomiya breweries would be fun. Hakutaka is the largest and explains the process well, but there is better sake nearby.

The bar on the 15th floor of the Kobe Oriental hotel is nice in the evening. Good cocktails and relatively inexpensive (1400 JPY for a Hendricks GT for example). Nice view from the small outdoor section.

  6. It’s been 20 years so I don’t know any if the names sorry.

    But…

There is a hill you can climb up behind Kobe, it has great views from the top.

If you walk a little way down the other side there is a village with an onsen that has dark red clay in water.

After that you can catch a bus back to Kobe.

    Takes a few hours.
