Pausing Mandarin to learn Japanese

Hey everyone,

I have been learning Mandarin for some time now, and have made quite some progress. Which makes me happy. I have learned around 800-900 words through Anki.

However, I’m feeling a bit burnt out with Chinese. Learning Japanese is also something I’d like to do in my life.

That is why I’d like to have some advice. Would you recommend learning Japanese to the 1000 words mark while only doing reviews for Chinese and not learning any new words. This way I won’t lose any progress at Mandarin. Then after the 1000 words I can switch back and forth every now and then between the two languages to keep myself engaged.

Thank you in advance for your opinion and advice.
