Are てひ and 人 the same?

I am learning Japanese via duolingo, and this new option for person appeared in my character pool. Is it a character that makes the same noise as the other two combined? Was it invented to replace the other option? Curious

  1. ひと means “person” for example” 彼 わ やさしい ひと です” (he is a nice person)it can also mean being from somewhere for example” 彼 わ 日本人 です”(he is Japanese here ひと/人 is pronounced jin ) now you can write ひと in three shapes 1 hiragana ひと 2.katakanaヒト 3. kanji 人. I hope it was helpful

  2. Don’t use duolingo. It’s actually just a video game and not a language learning app. Use Mango Languages for grammar and vocabulary. Use the app “Learn Kanji – Japanese” (pay the 13$ for all content forever) to learn kanji and vocabulary at the same time. Use YouTube to listen to intro podcasts to hear everyday Japanese that natives use. Use DJT Kana to learn hiragana and katakana (if you use this website for 2-3 weeks you’ll master both scripts). Duolingo is hot trash. They make it seem like it’s a language learning app but it’s just a game, plus they make blatant errors with Japanese.

  3. direct honest advice:
    – stop using duolingo
    – do memorize hiragana and katakana asap
    – pick up genki 1 whether physically or one of many pdfs you can search for (or any other well known book series, or tae kim’s guide for free online, or imabi.net if you are a linguistics nut and can deal with zero vocabulary handholding)
    – don’t treat japanese as a language where you can memorize a mapping of character to pronunciation (人 as a word has a pronunciation, but as a character does not have a consistent pronunciation any more than “a” has a consistent pronunciation in english)
    – don’t treat japanese as a language where the parts of speech or sentence patterns will match in any way whatsoever with english (you will immediately and forever run into situations where individual words cannot be translated in any way ever, and must be learned as part of a phrase pattern instead, starting with particle は and “copula” だ/です)

  4. I think this guy is either straight up trolling or only using Duolingo based on his comments
