Asking for Letter of Recommendation?

I’m an ALT working for a dispatch company and my schools are aware that my contract ends in September. Is it appropriate to ask my English co-teacher for a letter of recommendation for a new job I’m interested in? What is the etiquette for making this kind of request?

  1. Just ask. There isn’t really any etiquette here other than ask politely and accept whatever answer they give. No need to stress over it.

  2. Yes, go for it humbly and with affection.

She might give you a sealed envelope. Not sure that happens these days, but it did a couple of decades ago.

  3. Perfectly fine to ask your teacher, or even the vice principal.

Assuming you are on good terms with people at the school, it is quite possible that your teacher will write it but it will be signed (officially issued by) the principal.

  4. Sure! See if you can get one from your supervisor too. I thiiiink letters of recommendation aren’t common in Japan, so getting something from a higher up/someone from your company would be great too.

  5. Just ask but be prepared to give some examples of what is usually included in these things (if u want to use it outside Japan)

  6. Your company won’t like it because it’s “their” client. In practice, nobody cares, and you’re leaving anyway.
