Public clinic for type 1 diabetes in Tokyo? English preferred.

Been in Tokyo for about 3 months now, and wondering where I can find an English clinic to get insulin. Went to a private clinic once but ¥12000 monthly isn’t affordable for me as a student.

  1. Several hospitals have English speaking endocrinologists. Usually hospitals are pretty affordable with insurance but you often need a referral letter. Do you think you could get one?

  2. Private and Public, the prices won’t change.

You should look into getting help from the ward office though, there may be ways to reduce your financial burden when diagnosed with a disease.

  3. Medical fees in Japan are determined by the method of treatment and medications, not by whether the patient is in a private or public hospital. Insulin injections are the same price no matter where you get them. That is 36,000 yen per month, and your payment is 30% of that due to health insurance assistance.
