FYI as I just returned from there:
– DiDi does *not* cover Hakone, despite being recommended by Google Maps.
– Go Taxi does cover Hakone with multiple cars available until at least 9pm. Wait times varied from 1 minute to 7 minutes on a Sunday afternoon and evening.
As a side note, a taxi between Odawara Station and the South end of Lake Ashi cost about 7000円 and took 25 minutes. The train/funicular/cable car/pirate ship ride is more fun, but I was in a hurry this time 🙂

If you were in a hurry why not take the bus from odawara to lake ashi? Takes roughly the same amount of time since it doesn’t really start making stops until the lake ashi area since that’s where everyone tends to go lol. Taxi is kind of dumb unless everything is closed. Bus is just as efficient and waaaaay cheaper. Idk if 6900 yen is worth the extra 5 minutes you might save
Hakone also has its own taxis that are owned by the same company Tozan that owns the busses trains etc.
