JET boomers with knowledge of interview locations?

I have heard myths and rumors about certain interview locations being more strict/lenient than others. Is this true? Any standouts?

  1. Not true. Interviews are always panels of 3 people. 1 member is from the consulate/embassy 1 is a past JET and 1 is a Japanese expert (eg. Language prof, ex pat, member of local Japanese cultural association etc.). Most consulates only ask members to be interviewers for 1 day so there is a lot of fluctuations between members instead of 1 team making all the decisions. I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to game this side of the application. Go in and enjoy the experience.

  2. Guam used to be great because the candidates usually ticked the boxes CLAIR was looking for. However it doesn’t matter anymore unless you are a resident of Guam.

  3. Nah all the applications get sent to Tokyo for review so it doesn’t matter. Your interviewers like or dislike you matters more. Who are they? Who knows.

  4. u/ToshMcMongbody People working in education tend to be more open-minded than most. I don’t think some of homophobic rhetoric and offensive comments you have created in other threads would make you a good candidate for the program.

Also your user name is offensive. (Mong; A person who has an intellectual disability, especially one associated with Down’s syndrome (often used as a general term of abuse).
