  1. Is the backpack going down to your butt a fashion thing here? I seen a few people wearing backpacks with the straps super loose so the back is dangling below their back and jiggles as they walk

  2. So when it rains the trains become extra packed. I understand why this is for local trains, what with people who would normally walk or bike choosing not too

But why are things like the keikyuu 快特 trains also extra packed on rainy days. Is there really anybody who walks/bikes to Yokohama from kamiōoka or shinagawa to keikyuu kamata?

  3. Any amazon prime deals you were proud of claiming?

I saw most things I wanted were put on “sale” but were the same price as when I checked before

  4. Any **general moving/packing** tips? Making a big ole cross country move in a couple of weeks and am quickly approaching beheaded chicken levels of flopping around trying to get everything done at once. I’m planning on shipping most everything via YuPack or possibly Kuroneko, depending on price. No big furniture, but a good few boxes of random knick knacks and some more fragile/expensive stuff (several game consoles, drawing tablet, PC parts.) More specific things I’d like any advice on:

    * Shipping a Desktop – leaning towards having Kuroneko come and pack it all up/insuring it, just built it a few months ago. Getting rid of the monitors, so it’s just the main unit, but it’s got a glass side panel, mounted cooler, etc.
    * Shipping booze – Have a few bottles of limited-run nihonshuu I’d like to take with me, not sure if JP Post or Kuroneko is better here.
    * Combined gas/electric vs not – I’m eyeing Osaka Gas’ combo deal. Might be cheaper to use separate providers, but from a QoL standpoint having the bills together and the application online seems pretty handy, + they pay for your amazon prime membership.
    * Aircon advice: Going to be buying (and having!) an aircon for the first time, I’ve heard daikan is quite good but wondering what I should prep for money wise. I’ll probably only have one unit, but I’m moving into a 2DK (48m, both rooms are 6帖) where the outlet is in one of the 2 tatami rooms (gonna be using that room as an office.)

Any other random moving tips would be appreciated as well! Thanks.

  5. Tried looking this up but couldn’t find…any idea when the Oppenheimer film will be released in Japan. Thinking it hasn’t been announced yet.

  6. So Nitori sells N-cool bed sheets with three levels of “coolness” or “effectiveness” (N-cool, N-cool super and N-cool W-super) but has anyone actually compared them? I feel that often in these cases, it is not the one that is advertised as the best which is actually the best, as some of the reviews seem to suggest too.

  7. Can you use a tripod on a train platform in the countryside? (Note, countryside related, obviously something like Shinagawa station is too crowded for that.)

I see many people taking photos of trains on platforms but no one ever uses a tripod, just curious if there is a rule against that.

  8. In the evenings I tend to see tuned/racing cars at our local driving school. I’m guessing they have to retake driving lessons again when they get caught or something like that? Or does anyone know what else might be going on there?

  9. Does anyone have a link to an upload of specifically the Vice Japan documentary about Pebble Dohsyuku-kai (that yoghurt sex cult)?

It seems to have been scrubbed from the internet.

  10. Are there any banks here that have open banking APIs for retrieving information from your bank account (similar to whatever private API services like Money Forward seem to use for each bank)?

  11. I wanna know if there is any app where I can see if a restaurant is gluten-free or if it has glute free options, does anyone know somethings?
Recommendations of restaurants are appreciated too, thanks in advance.

  12. Why are most hotels in Sapporo completely fully booked in early August?
Obviously no more covid rules is the main answer, but I kid you not 99% of regular and luxury hotels are full.

Have picked up the habit of going to Hokkaido over the past years, and I have always found it quite easy to get accommodation. Yet now, the ones that still have place charge 40.000 to 100.000 per night for a normal room.
Booking a room in kyushu just a few days before golden week was easier.
Does anyone know what’s going on?

  13. Anyone know where I can read up on the quality of Japanese made food? The guy I’m dating was talking to me about Japan-exclusive conspiracy theories and mentioned one that Japan’s food quality is low due to American influences, basically forcing them to use lower quality ingredients and dangerous chemicals that are illegal in Europe, to paraphrase it.

I’ve never heard about this before and want to read up on it, but from somewhere a little more respectable than “Trust me, bro” sources.

  14. How many years of experience or until what age can you still apply a new graduate job? Found out that some of them are much better paying than my current one, even at almost 4 years experience and a master’s degree.

  15. If I buy a USJ annual pass does that mean I can use the pass until next year (for example buying it for august 1st 2023 start to August 2024???) also I heard they will discontinue the regular annual pass of USJ will I still be able to use the pass next year?

  16. Where do you park 50cc Mopeds? I often see people just parking them like bicycles randomly in a corner where it may not bother anyone, but is that the legal way of parking it? Or not legal but not enforced? If so where do they want Mopeds to park?

  17. i’m planning a trip home later this year, and already received a silly request. simple google search turns up nada, so does anyone here know a place that sells rare whiskey? i’ve been tasked to find blanton’s takara red.

  18. I just received the valuation of my mother’s assets who passed away back in the UK in December last year, but about 5 months will need to pass before the property can be sold. I think I understand that I have to declare the inheritance and pay taxes on the part that I received (I’m married to a Japanese citizen), but do I need to pay it before even receiving the money from the inheritance? Or is it possible to delay the payment until I receive said money? It will probably be quite substantial and would leave a huge dent in my savings.

  19. How legal is it to drive around with plushies completely surrounding the perimeter of your windscreen?

Or rather how is it not illegal lol.

  20. For everyone who has clothes or outerwear with suede trim (or suede collar), what home delivery cleaning do you use?

  21. What’s a good used sedan for < ¥1,000,000?

Used for city driving 3-4 times a week

  22. Please help: I am wondering about flower buying etiquette. The Japanese man I’m dating (but not official with) has a solo piano concert on Monday and I’d like to buy him flowers to celebrate the occasion — but I am not sure about what the proper way is to hand off/deliver/bring the flowers to the somewhat small venue. Do I arrange to have them delivered before the show? Do I bring them myself and just carry them to my seat (seems strange)? Do I give them to someone?

Would appreciate some knowledge on the matter if anyone knows!

  23. Planning on taking a trip out to Yokohama at the same time as the Pokémon Worlds thing, and there are like 8 separate events that you can currently “sign up” for, which just means entering a lottery to see if you’re able to get a ticket, is it always like this at big events? Is this just because it’s that big a deal? I feel like I’m going insane

  24. Bit of a weird one related to バイト jobs and transport costs.

I live about 30min from a major city, and I go there once a week, it’s about ¥1300 for a return trip (plus any side trips on subway lines).
Looking at applying for baito, if get a job in the city would they pay for my train fare as a weekly pass (so I could then use it on off days) or do they just give you a payment for the days worked (eg. 3 x ¥1300 per week)?

Just wondering if it’s worth applying for jobs in the city to get a commuter pass or just look at jobs nearby my house.

  25. Has anyone tried Panasonic’s (or any, I guess) little countertop dishwashers? Any thoughts on them?

  26. Why would some people from my job refuse to acknowledge my existence? Like, i greet them but they completely ignorme me, and now that i ignore them, i have a bad reputation.

  27. Is it normal to be tired out from a day of walking to places (~10k steps) that you can’t even keep awake to study afterwards as a 21 year old female in decent shape, or is this a sign I need to be sleeping more/doing more cardio? Is this a normal effect heat can have? I don’t remember but I think doing all this in the winter wasn’t this tiring.

    I drank 2 litres of water so I don’t think I’m dehydrated…

  28. How does customs/import tax work when ordering things from online shops abroad?

I just ordered something worth about 1500USD and selected FedEx priority as the shipment method.
Now I started to think how does the customs process work, and will it slow down receiving the package a lot?

Has anyone previous experiences, and how painful was the process?
