Hello everyone,
We’re planning to go to Okinawa with friends shortly. We’ve already bought the tickets and are putting together our travel itinerary. I would like your recommendations on places to visit (exciting restaurants, bars). We are particularly interested in beaches. One important note is that none of the group has a Japanese driving license, so we are limited to public transport.
I’m familiar with Tokashiki Island; I visited it a few years ago and enjoyed it. Are there any other islands that can be reached by ferry?
I want to thank you all in advance for your recommendations.

Okinawa without a car is pretty rubbish especially if you’re on the main island. I assume that’s where you’re staying? If so I’d base yourself in Naha city as you can take boats to smaller islands etc from the main harbour there.
Naha is very fun to hang out, especially the old market area. It’s a very unique place in Japan, tons of bars and laid back izakayas and friendly alley cats. It’s a great city to get lost in, there are surprises at every corner.
I recommend you check out the [Valley of Gangala](https://www.google.com/search?q=Valley+of+Gangala&tbm=isch) as well, a bit out of the way but easy to reach by bus. The place is surreal. You need to book a tour in advance.
If you’re into beaches, Tokashiki Island and surrounding islands are easy to reach by ferry from Naha. Make sure to book some nice guesthouse in advance. You can bike around the islands and reach secluded beaches that are straight out of a travel magazine.
