Doctor gave me medicine without label

Hey I went to the doctor today turns out I have covid. I’m not too bad just in bed all day cause everything hurts but it could be worse.

Now the doctor prescribed me what’s essentially 300mg of paracetamol which I take. Didn’t get the whole box just one slip of pills.

Now for the cough on the other hand he gave me a small bottle of brown liquid. Due to language I didn’t quite understand what to do with it but figured I’d look up the medicines name and be good. But after examining at home the bottle does not have a name or sticker whatsoever. It’s just a bottle with the ml measurings drawn on the side by hand.

Now I don’t know what to do with it. Really my last resort is asking here if it’s a thing in Japan maybe some other people got brown liquid for their covid cough.

He also was very adamant to tell me !ONLY ONE DROP IN WATER! I just don’t know when or how often.

I know the sub isn’t a doctors office just a Ditch effort before I have to ask them.

Edit: usually in Germany we get the medicine in its original packaging but I should have considered that I’m not in Germany and Japan never ceases to surprise. Totally my fault

  1. You should have gotten a paper with a description of the medicine, or what they call “kusuri techo”. If you havent call the doctor office and said you forgot and they’ll explain again.

Otherwise yeah it’s common to give you just the amount of meds you need, sometimes in small paper packages, sometimes in what seem to be random bottle where they mark the level and stuff. You’ll probably never get a box of paracetamol if they only prescribe it to you a few days.

  2. *a small bottle of brown liquid. !ONLY ONE DROP IN WATER! I j*

from the above description it could be this “[Isojin Ugai Kusuri – Isodine Mouthwash](https://thesimpleasian.net/2019/01/28/japanese-sore-throat-medicine/)”isodine based mouthwash.

There was a ‘panic’ horde buying when [Osaka governor said it could cure Covid](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/08/04/national/gargle-medicine-coronavirus-osaka-governor-hirofumi-yoshimura/) during the pandemic.

Best go back to the doctor for clarification.

  3. He gave it to you for your coughs, you are supposed to use one drops in a glass of water, and it’s a brown liquid. I am guessing it’s イソジン, a disinfectant for the throat. You gargle with the water containing the medication, and spit it out.

Call the clinic and ask if they gave you イソジン or a うがいぐすり. But if you are not sure, just gargle without it.

  4. In my experience its normal, they just give you a paper with instructions.

  5. Mystery bottleee niceeee!!! Pop 4 and see if you grow wings? If you only grow horns than you know there good for partys

  6. The label is attached to your medicine record book (kusuri techo). The instructions are usually printed on a separate paper or on the paper bag that they came in, if they came in one.

  7. The flow at the pharmacy is generally as follows:
    – You fill out a questionnaire (first time only) so that they check for potential side effects.
    – They ask you if you want to substitute the medicines prescribed with a generic version.
    – They may ask you if you have or if you want a “medicine book” to keep track of the medications you’re taking.
    – They prepare the medicines, sometimes wrapping them up in individual (labelled) jackets, but in my case they always gave them in the original packaging.
    – Along with the receipt, they always give you a description of the medicine.

  8. It’s probably iodine that you gargle with.
Best bet is to call the clinic you went to confirm and ask your questions regarding the dosing schedule (if you speak Japanese or see if someone can help call for you).
