Itinerary Help! Does this 20-day itinerary make sense? Tokyo/Mt Fuji/Hikone/Kyoto/Osaka/Ako/Kurashiki/Hiroshima/Tokyo

Hi, me and my boyfriend are going to Japan in August for 20-ish days, please let me know if our current plan is do-able and would really love some reccomendations on what we can do with our time in each city.

We have a rough idea of what we want to do, but nothing specific has been planned yet nor times/dates. Only flights and hotels are booked, so all recommendations are welcome. Never been, and absoutely so lost and overwhelmed with trying to plan it! All advice is appreciated:)

  2. * You have a Nara day trip listed twice?

    * Three nights in Hiroshima is a bit much for just the city and will require traveling outside of it (Kure, Onomichi etc.)

    > Kurashiki and Hikone

Given the logistical hassles I really hate changing hotels just for one night unless it is for a special experience. In this sense I would convert Kurashiki and Hikone to day trips. Hikone from Kyoto, and Kurashiki between Kansai and Hiroshima. Especially since the Kurashiki hotel is not even that highly rated – 7.8/10 on Booking.com.

    > Lake Kawaguchi

Friendly reminder that Mt Fuji is usually covered in clouds in August, in case this is the sole reason of your visit there.

  3. Personally, I think it’s *way* too much moving around, especially for what I assume is a first time visit.

  4. Lots of hotels and lots of moving around, although 20 days is a decent amount of time.

If you’re okay with the hotels swapping, then it may not be an issue.

It does seem like you at least give yourself a few days in a given city, which is good. I would avoid trying to get too granular within a specific day of plans, once you get to that point of planning.
