eye drops for irritated eyes?

hello everyone! i am a study abroad student from america (going back home mid-august) with very beginner-level japanese and i need help with eye drops for irritated eyes 🙁

3 days ago, a bug flew into my eye (ew) and i rubbed my eye thinking it would help to remove it but i think i just rubbed it… in?

now my eye is in moderate pain. it’s super uncomfortable and is making me concerned because i’ve never had eye discomfort that lasted this long (and has not gotten better). it feels like pressure radiating from the inner corner to the outer corner. and it sort of feels like something is still in my eye despite flushing it 2-3 times daily.

my doctor back home asked me to make a doctor’s appointment here which i am currently looking into since i am very concerned something is still in my eye.

in the meantime, *what eye drops are good for irritated eyes, especially from foreign objects?*

my doctor advised me to get “visine” but i don’t think that’s available here?

(also does anyone know the average cost of a visit to a doctor without japanese health insurance?)

thank you 🙂

  1. I agree with your doctor, you need to see an eye doctor pretty quick! RE: costs , hard to say but around 4,000-6,000 perhaps?

You should also advocate for some sort of health insurance cover too!

  2. Go to the eye doctor. It’s cheap here. They will take hold care of you and prescribe you eye drops that are better than the store ones.

  3. I scratched my eye before and I understand your pain! Please get some regular eye drops for the night and visit the eye clinic in the morning. Most clinics open Saturdays until 12 pm usually. Some later.

  4. Pataday eye drops would be great for you.

I’m sure you have already, but flush your eye out with warm water a bunch to remove the bits and pieces. That will help.

  5. Go to a doctor today. You do not need an appointment.

The majority of eye doctors I’ve visited or know about open at 9 or 10 AM; go an hour early because walk-ins are first-come first-served.

You’ll have to fill out a form that’s likely to be in Japanese. At the top will be name, address, telephone number; at the bottom will be a list of previous illnesses that you have to check; the middle will likely be a place to roughly describe your symptoms. Just fill out the form as best you can.

It’s likely the doctor will know enough English to at least write the name of the problem you have. If you get a prescription, you can just take it to any pharmacy. There’s likely to be one a few meters from the clinic.
